In recognition of Stroke Awareness Month, Oasis Hospice is committed to helping our community stay informed, prepared, and supported. Stroke can happen suddenly and without warning, but knowing the signs and acting quickly can save lives.
We’ve created and are sharing this resource to help raise awareness, recognize stroke symptoms quickly, and provide valuable support for stroke survivors, caregivers, and families.
Why Stroke Awareness Matters
Stroke survivors are at an increased risk for another stroke. Quick action can significantly improve outcomes, increase survival rates, and reduce long-term complications.
Understanding the warning signs and responding immediately is one of the most important things you can do for yourself or someone you love.
Recognizing the Signs of a Stroke
Stroke symptoms often appear suddenly. If you notice any of the following signs, act immediately:
Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg (especially on one side of the body)
Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or difficulty understanding speech
Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, or loss of balance or coordination
Sudden severe headache with no known cause
Act FAST: What to Do in a Stroke Emergency
An easy way to remember the signs of stroke is F.A.S.T.:
F – Face Drooping
A – Arm Weakness
S – Speech Difficulty
T – Time to Call 911
If you notice any of these signs:
Do not ignore them—even if they go away
Check the time symptoms started
Call 911 immediately
Stroke is a medical emergency. Every second counts.

Supporting Our Community Through Awareness
At Oasis Hospice, we believe that education, compassion, and community support are essential in helping individuals and families navigate health challenges.
Recovering from a stroke can affect individuals and families both physically and emotionally, often creating challenges that continue long after hospitalization. Families navigating stroke recovery may also benefit from learning more about senior care needs, health, wellness, and support and exploring engaging exercise ideas for seniors to stay active and healthy. Access to rehabilitation support, emotional encouragement, and healthy lifestyle habits can play an important role in improving recovery, independence, and overall quality of life after a stroke.
